Amirkabir Research and Technology Fund

Amirkabir Research and Technology Fund was established in 2020 as the specialized financial institution of Amirkabir University of Technology. It received its operational license from the Research and Technology Funds Working Group (under Article 44 of the Law to Remove Barriers to Competitive Production and Enhance the Financial System of the Country) and began its activities in May 2021. This fund, with investments from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tecvest Holding, and Danayan Financial Group, aims to support the development and commercialization of various technologies by investing in and supporting knowledge-based and technology-driven companies.
The services provided by the fund are categorized into investment, granting financial facilities, and issuing guarantees. The types of guarantees issued include those for participation in tenders and auctions, advance payments, performance bonds, and fulfillment of obligations. According to the regulations on guarantees for public transactions, the guarantees issued by research and technology funds are equivalent to bank guarantees and are valid for all executive bodies. These guarantees have been officially communicated to all financial officers of executive bodies by the Department of Accounting at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance.
Furthermore, the types of financial facilities available through the fund include: prototyping, pre-industrial production, industrial production, working capital, and installment sales (leasing and Istisna). These financial facilities are offered to knowledge-based companies with supportive rates and conditions.
Another tool used by the Amirkabir Research and Technology Fund to support startups is the Co-Investment method, in collaboration with the Innovation and Prosperity Fund. In this model, licensed financial institutions such as the Amirkabir Research and Technology Fund can apply for co-investment with the Innovation and Prosperity Fund. After approval of the request and determination of the investment ceiling, applicants can present their projects to co-investment agents. If the proposal is approved and an agreement is reached, the agent can utilize the investment credit, with confirmation from the Innovation Fund, for two-party or three-party collaborations.
