Sepandar

Sepandar is the realization of utilizing information and communication technologies in other fields. Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) has been implemented in developed countries for many years. In Iran, this concept was initially introduced on a limited scale and then planned and implemented more extensively.
In 2017, the Sepandar consortium was formed with the participation of seven companies. After winning the public tender announced by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and signing a memorandum of understanding between the consortium members and the ministry, the company “Modern Toll Payment Systems in National Highways (Sepandar)” was established as a private joint-stock company. On March 17, 2018, Sepandar was officially registered as a project-based company after obtaining approval from the Cabinet. Finally, in 2018, the project contract was signed between Sepandar and the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, represented by the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company.
Sepandar initially began its operations with the aim of digitizing toll payments across all highways in the country. However, today, with the capabilities this project provides to its main stakeholders, it has become the best tool for expanding the capacity of the country’s highway network at lower costs, with higher efficiency, and through more effective methods in traffic management. The system enables distance-based toll calculation (based on the distance traveled), dynamic toll calculation (based on the time of travel), flexible toll calculation (based on the time of payment), and offering discount schemes (based on travel frequency, type of vehicle, etc.), among other countless features that play a significant role in traffic management and optimizing national resources.
